Residential Solar Electric

In early May 2008 Turner Photographics went solar with a 4,500 watt grid-tie photovoltaic array on our rooftop. It was turned on for the first time on May 12 and we immediately started selling excess power back to Puget Sound Energy. Over the course of the year we expect to generate about 75% of our electrical needs from the sunshine hitting our panels. Our system includes 24 Sanyo HIP-190BA3 panels mounted to the roof with Unirac SolarMounts, and a SMA Sunny Boy 5000US inverter. The system was designed and installed by Fire Mountain Solar of Mount Vernon, Washington. Averaged over four years, we’ve actually produced about 86% of our total load.

This series of photos shows the installation process, as well as the appearance of the completed system.
