Canyon Lake Old Growth Community Forest
The Canyon Lake Old Growth Community Forest includes high-elevation old growth conifer forest as well as the area immediately surrounding Canyon Lake. A hiking trail on abandoned logging roads leads to the old growth, which tops out at nearly 5,000 feet elevation with vistas east to Mount Baker and the Twin Sisters. Another trail loops around the lake. It was protected through a public-private partnership in 1998 and is now owned by Whatcom County and Western Washington University.
The access road to Canyon Lake washed out in January 2009. It is unknown when the road will be repaired.
