Saturday, October 30 we’ll be photographing kids and families in their Halloween costumes during the Downtown Bellingham trick-or-treat. Find us inside the Public Market at the corner of Cornwall and Flora between 2 and 6 pm. Packages start at just $20 and a portion of the price goes to the Bellingham Food Bank “Milk Money” program. Get dressed up, put your vampire or joker grillz in and come on down for some scary fun for everyone!
Last year we photographed about 150 kids and groups of kids in costume when we were set up on the sidewalk on Cornwall. This year we’re inside so it should be a lot more comfortable and we won’t have to worry about rain and wind.
The Public Market is having a costume contest that begins at 5 pm so if you’ve got a great costume be sure to enter.

The Historic Fairhaven Sidewalk Sale on Saturday, September 18 is a huge one-day event throughout Bellingham’s Fairhaven district. Look for tents in front of businesses throughout the neighborhood where there will be bargains on books, clothes, portraits, pottery, shoes, and much more.

This is my favorite time of the year to photograph familes and seniors outdoors. The weather is still nice, the light is flattering, and we’re starting to get a little color in the maples and shrubs. Soon the rainy season will be upon us again and we’ll all want to curl up with a good book by the fireplace.
Fall is also a time when families are starting to think about Christmas and other holiday gifts, as well as Christmas cards. With a fall portrait you’re a step ahead of the game and can avoid the holiday rush.
For high school seniors, yearbook deadlines are coming up fast in October. If you haven’t had your portrait made yet, there’s still time but you shouldn’t delay any longer.

I hate the bandwagon effect, the idea that just because everyone else is doing it you should be, too. Isn’t that what leads all those lemmings off the cliff? But I’ve been hearing from other photographers across the country how much fun they’re having photographing pets. And there’s a certain profit motive involved here as well. I read a few days ago that people in the USA spend some $35 billion annually on their pets.
Dogs (and cats) are much-loved members of the family for many households. They give unconditional love and affection, something that is often otherwise missing in our daily lives.
I’m starting to explore those bonds and relationships between pets and humans in my photography. My latest venture, Purebred Pet Portraits, is an outgrowth of my human portrait photography. I’m getting some marketing guidance from Taimi Gorman, owner of Gorman Publicity and the unfortunately now-defunct Doggie Diner in Fairhaven. That’s Taimi with Oscar in the photo at the right. Madeline the pug, sitting on the wooden chair, is also her dog.
