Giving Back to the Community
At Turner Photographics, we’ve been active members of the Bellingham and Whatcom County communities since 1990, before we opened as a business. When our kids were young we were involved with their schools and served as Cub Scout and Boy Scout leaders. Mark is a member of Bellingham Bay Rotary. He currently serves on the statewide board of the Washington Native Plant Society and is a past board member of Professional Photographers of Washington. We’re committed to helping make our community a better place to live and work.
We give back with our photography, too.
Squalicum Student of the Month
Bellingham Bay Rotary sponsors a Student of the Month at Squalicum High School. These young people have demonstrated a commitment to both academic success and serving the community through their volunteer activities with many local organizations. Each student receives a free studio portrait for their family and each portrait is displayed at Squalicum for a year. Counselors at the school have reported that students ask how they can get on this honor wall. Public recognition has motivated students to get more involved.

Eagle Scouts
Becoming an Eagle Scout takes dedication, commitment, and hard work over several years culminating in a substantial community service project. Only about 5% of Boy Scouts attain the rank of Eagle. Many of those young men take the leadership skills they’ve learned in Scouting and become leaders at the local, state, and national level. Mark offers a free studio portrait to each new local Eagle Scout, with one print given to the youth and another displayed in the Whatcom District office of the Mt. Baker Council.
Charity Auctions
We’ve helped local charities raise hundreds of thousands of dollars at their annual auctions through our donation of a complete portrait session and credit toward finished portraits.
Organizations we’ve supported in their fundraising efforts.
