You Can’t Can Garden Here!
I’ve been working since 2007 on the photography for a book about gardening between the Cascades and the Rockies. Pat Munts, a friend, gardener, and writer from Spokane, is spearheading the project and writing the text. We’ve shopped the book proposal to several publishers, but so far none have made a commitment. That’s frustrating, but we’re not giving up. We firmly believe that there are thousands of gardeners in the geographically diverse dry interior of the northwest who are starved for local information.
The book will be a combination of inspiration and how-to. It will encompass regional biogeography and microclimates to set the stage for helping gardeners determine what’s likely to succeed on their property.
Photos for the book have been appearing in books and magazines, including a cover for This Old House and a feature in American Gardener.
The Inland Northwest Gardening website has an archive of photos from gardens I’ve visited for this project, as well as a blog written by Pat with timely and meaty information about gardening east of the Cascades.
Hey Mark: I loved your new newsletter! Is that Sherrie Guile’s greenhouse from last winter??? The caption didn’t say so, but I’m pretty sure I recognize the shot.
Just fyi; on this page there seems to be something superimposed that makes the text hard to read? I’m sure just a simple fix the web people can see to.

Glad to hear you’re still working on the project.
Bev and I are well – Bev’s rock-building arm has ‘given out’ for now, so is limiting her garden work this year.
