Family Portraits

A professional family portrait is an investment in memories. It's likely to outlast you, standing the test of time.
Telling Your Family's Story in a Portrait
Mark will help you look your best, relax in front of the camera, and guide you to choose the right size portrait to display proudly in your home. The best family portraits tell a story and include an environment important to your family. Mark combines over fifteen years of photography experience with knowledge of lighting and posing to create art that includes your family.
When you're looking for family portrait ideas, call photographer Mark Turner at 360-671-6851 to discuss ways you help your family look best, or use our Contact Form to start the conversation. Mark creates large family portraits, intimate small family portraits, outdoor portraits, or if the weather is threatening he'll photograph your portrait inside your home, in the studio, or one of your family's favorite indoor spaces.
Your portrait session will be scheduled for one to two hours. In that time Mark will create several different poses and groupings of your family. Depending on the location you choose there may be opportunities to utilize several different backgrounds or environments. Your family will have fun working together with Mark to create portraits that reflect your family at this point in time. Ride bikes? Bring them along. Skiing important to your family? How about a winter portrait in the snow on Mt. Baker? The possibilities are almost endless.
Family Portrait Occasions
A family portrait is a special occasion. Families large and small mark the passage of big events with a new portrait. Some of these major milestones are:
- Completion of the family, often when the youngest child is a year or two old
- Oldest child is preparing to leave home for college, the military, community service volunteer, or a job in another city
- 25th or 50th wedding anniversary
Portrait Scheduling
Appointments are available Tuesday through Saturday. We usually book only one or two sessions per day to provide maximum attention to your needs when the light is at its best. Please let us know in advance if you need to reschedule because of illness or other reason. We want you to look your best and will try to accommodate your request.
Mark will guide you through planning your session, suggest clothing, help you choose a location, create a relaxed and enjoyable experience when you’re in front of the camera, and finally project the best photographs so you can see how they’ll look on your wall.
Areas Served
Photographer Mark Turner will travel anywhere in the world to create your portrait; just pay the travel expenses in addition to investing in the photography.
Most families choose to have their portraits made closer to home — in Bellingham, Ferndale, Lynden, Everson, Blaine, Birch Bay, Semiahmoo, or on the shores of Lake Whatcom, Lake Padden, or Lake Samish. Our session fee includes travel to any location in Whatcom County or the agricultural part of Skagit County. We'll travel across the border into the lower mainland of British Columbia as well.
Investment
A professional family portrait is an investment with long-lasting value. Our session fee is $200, which covers the photographer's time to create your portraits, initial editing, and preparation of your previews. Finished portraits are à la carte, with prices depending upon the size and finish you choose. Mark will guide you to the appropriate size portrait for the wall where you're going to display it so you don't spend too much on a portrait that is too big or purchase one that is too small to enjoy properly in your home. Most families ultimately invest between $1000 and $1500 in their portraits, including a wall portrait and some smaller gift portraits.
