Clearcut ForestLogging is prevalent in the Pacific Northwest, providing lumber for building, pulp for paper, and jobs for people. On state-owned land, the money from timber sales generally goes to support schools. The dominant technique is clearcutting -- removing nearly all the trees in a plot, usually followed by planting a single species such as Douglas Fir. This cut-over plot was second-growth forest south of Mt. Shuksan. |
