Old-growth Mountain HemlockMountain hemlock, Tsuga mertensiana, is usually found on cold, snowy subalpine sites where it grows slowly, sometimes attaining more than 800 years in age. This forest contains 800-year old trees at about 4,000 feet elevation and is part the new Canyon Lake Community Forest in Whatcom County, made possible by the efforts of the Whatcom Land Trust. |
